Scotland junior international goalie makes move to Murrayfield

Murrayfield Racers are pleased to announce that Euan Simpson will be joining the club’s roster for the upcoming season.

The 19-year-old made his senior debut for Kirkcaldy Kestrels during the 2016/17 campaign and has since established himself as a regular starter in the Scottish National League.

He back-stopped the Kestrels to seven victories from 13 appearances in all competitions last term, helping the team finish sixth in the SNL.

Simpson also shone in the Scottish U20 League, posting a 91.4 save percentage as Fife Falcons claimed the title with a 100% record.

The young goalie has represented Scotland at all junior levels and was part of the U19 national squad that faced England in Sheffield for the last two years.

Simpson says that he is eager to continue his progression and is looking forward to linking-up with his new teammates.

“I’m extremely excited to have the opportunity to play for such a proven and successful team like Murrayfield Racers,” he said.

“I feel that I can help the team once again challenge in all competitions and win even more silverware.

“Playing in the NIHL North Cup will be a step up and my aim is to prove that I’m capable and reliable at this level.

“I want to be a better goalie and I know that working with Tony Hand and the rest of the staff can help me to develop greatly – I think that this will be a challenge I can live up to.

“I’ve seen what a great fanbase the Racers have and can’t wait to play for them. I can’t wait to get the season underway and I’m eager to show what I can do on the other side of the Forth.”

Simpson will challenge returnee Craig Douglas for a starting role next season, while promising Murrayfield junior Harry Elder will provide back-up to that pair.

Director of Hockey, Tony Hand, says he is delighted to add Simpson to the Racers’ squad for the upcoming campaign.

“Euan is the first new face to join the club this summer and I’m really happy to have him on board with us,” he said.

“He’s looked pretty impressive at junior level and already has plenty of experience under his belt in the SNL.

“I’m confident that he will continue to develop with the Racers and firmly believe that we have an excellent goalie line-up to go into battle with next season.”

With Simpson and Douglas announced as the Racers’ netminders, the club can confirm that Mark McGill will not be on the roster next season.

We would like to thank Mark for his efforts over the past couple of years and wish him well for the future.
