Murrayfield Racers secured second place in the Scottish National League (SNL) with a hard fought 4-3 victory over North Ayrshire Wild on Saturday.
The Racers started the game on the front foot, but they were unable to find a way past netminder John Russell.
North Ayrshire had been having a tough time of things over the past few weeks and looked eager to snap their six-game losing streak.
The visitors’ efforts were rewarded in the 15th minute as Martin Cardno fired them in front, but the Racers tied things up just a couple of minutes later through Alex Christian.
Wild continued to be troublesome in the middle period and regained the lead after 28 minutes as Gary Parker made it 2-1.
The Racers came out firing in the final session and managed to get their noses in front as Callum Boyd and Christian scored two quickfire goals in the 46th minute.
Wild refused to lie down and made it 3-3 with just under nine minutes to play as Parker grabbed his second goal of the game.
Murrayfield finally broke Wild’s resistance, with Dean Walker grabbing the winner in the 55th minute to seal a 4-3 victory.
The Racers are back in action on Sunday, 15th March, as they face Dundee Tigers in their final home game of the regular season.
They take on Paisley Pirates in the Scottish Cup Final at Dundee Ice Arena the following Saturday, before hosting Aberdeen Lynx in the quarter-finals of the SNL play-offs on Sunday, 22nd March.
