Murrayfield Racers boosted their hopes of reaching the Scottish Cup Final with a gritty 3-2 victory at Dundee Tigers over the weekend.
The Racers started the first leg of the semi-final on the front foot, but the home side’s defence worked hard to keep them at bay.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 16th minute as Ross Borwick bagged a superb opening goal for the Racers.
However, the Tigers battled back and goals by Craig Findlay and Ross Johnston either side of the first break put them 2-1 ahead.
The Racers regrouped and were rewarded midway through the game as Garry Simpson levelled the tie.
Both sides created chances in the final session as they sought to take a lead into the second leg.
Dean Walker’s goal in the 45th minute proved to be the difference between the two sides to give Murrayfield the advantage heading into the reverse fixture on March 1st.
The Racers are back in action this coming weekend in the final of the NIHL North Cup.
They host Whitley Warriors on Saturday, before travelling to Hillheads for the return game the following day.
