Murrayfield Racers were forced to dig deep as they went head-to-head with Paisley Pirates in the Scottish National League (SNL) on Sunday.
The Pirates headed to Murrayfield Ice Rink on the back of a three-game winning run and eager to gain their revenge for three heavy defeats against the Racers this season.
The visitors’ line-up included Adam Walker, a vastly experienced forward with over 600 appearances in the British National League, Elite League and English Premier League under his belt.
However, it was former Kirkcaldy Kestrels’ star Conor Duncan who made his mark in the first period, scoring one goal and assisting another as the Pirates took a 2-0 lead.
The Racers stepped things up in the middle session and were rewarded as Marty Simpson (2) and Joel Gautschi made it 3-2 by the second buzzer.
Gautschi and Garry Simpson put the home side further ahead in the third period, before ex-Racers and Solway Sharks forward Dan Abercrombie grabbed a late goal to make it 5-3.
Murrayfield are back in action this weekend with two league fixtures on the road. They visit North Ayrshire Wild on Saturday, before travelling to Kirkcaldy to face the Kestrels the following day.
