Murrayfield Racers turn their attentions to the semi-finals of the NIHL North Cup this weekend hoping for a change in fortunes against Solway Sharks.
The two sides meet at Dumfries Ice Bowl (face-off 7.00pm) on Saturday, before facing each other in the reverse fixture at Murrayfield Ice Rink (face-off 6.00pm) the following day.
The Racers have had a tough time of things against the Sharks this season, losing their three previous meetings in the league and cup by single-goal margins.
Their first game in the group stage of the NIHL North Cup saw the Racers open up a three-goal lead on home ice, but the Sharks battled back to secure a 4-3 victory.
Tony Hand’s side were unfortunate again in the return fixture, recovering from a 4-1 deficit to tie things up at 4-4.
However, the Sharks would not be denied and a bagged the winner with six seconds to play – a repeat of what happened in the first game.
Murrayfield also ran Solway close in the Scottish National League (SNL) at the start of November, eventually falling to a 3-2 road defeat.
The winners of the tie will face either Whitley Warriors or Billingham Stars in the final, with those two sides also going head-to-head this weekend.
Sunday’s fixture is a non-season ticket game. Please click here to purchase tickets in advance or normal admission prices apply on the door.
