Murrayfield Racers swept aside Kirkcaldy Kestrels on Sunday to retain their grip on the second place in the Scottish National League (SNL).
The emphatic 15-2 victory left the reigning champions 14 points behind Solway Sharks, but with six games in hand on their title rivals.
The Racers produced a strong opening period, with goals by Joel Gautschi (2), Garry Simpson, Marty Simpson and Michael Ireland helping to establish a 5-0 lead.
Sean Cochrane got the Kestrels on the scoreboard early in the middle session, but Ireland quickly restored the Racers’ five-goal advantage.
Allan Anderson bagged a second for the visitors, but further goals by Ireland, Garry Simpson, Rihards Grigors, Steven Clark and Guatschi sent the Racers in 11-2 ahead at the second break.
Gautschi (2), Callum Boyd and Garry Simpson added to the home side’s tally in the final period to ensure Murrayfield made a winning start to 2020.
The Racers are in league action twice next weekend, visiting Kilmarnock Thunder on Saturday before travelling to face Paisley Pirates the following day.
