Murrayfield Racers host Kirkcaldy Kestrels on Sunday (face-off 6.00pm) aiming to close the gap on Solway Sharks in the Scottish National League (SNL).
The Sharks have a 16-point advantage at the top of the standings, but the Racers have seven games in hand and will be eager to reel in their title rivals over the coming weeks.
The reigning champions ended 2019 on a high note, recording a 7-2 victory over Dundee Comets on New Years’ Eve to move up to second in the table.
With progress to the semi-finals of the NIHL North Cup and Scottish Cup already secured, Tony Hand’s side have plenty to look forward to during the second half of the season.
The Racers retained the Stuart Robertson Cup (SRC) in the run-up to Christmas and will be eager to collect even more silverware this term.
Kirkcaldy have had a difficult time of things this season, winning just three of their eight league games to date.
They were knocked out of the SRC during the group stage and lost out in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup.
However, their roster contains nine players who have played over 1,400 games between them in the Elite League and the Racers will not underestimate the threat they pose.
