Positive end to the year as Racers defeat Thunder and Comets

Murrayfield Racers ended 2019 with a bang after recording two victories in their final two fixtures of the year.

The Racers faced Kilmarnock Thunder in the Scottish Cup on Sunday aiming to book their place in the semi-finals of the competition.

Joel Gautschi (3), Kieran Black (2), Tom Ireland (2) and Garry Simpson (2) topped the scoring for Tony Hand’s side as they secured a comfortable 12-1 victory.

Murrayfield will now play Dundee Tigers in the last four, with the winners facing either Aberdeen Lynx, Dundee Comets or Paisley Pirates in the final.

The Racers switched their attention to the Scottish National League (SNL) on Tuesday as they welcomed Dundee Comets to Murrayfield Ice Rink.

Callum Boyd weighed in with a hat-trick, while Michael Ireland, Rihards Grigors, Garry Simpson and Marty Simpson were also on the scoresheet as the Racers triumphed 7-2.

The result moved the reigning champions back up to second place in the table, 16 points behind Solway Sharks but with seven games in hand.

The Racers are back in action on Sunday as they host Kirkcaldy Kestrels in the SNL (face-off 6.00pm). Please click here to purchase tickets.
