Silverware on the line as Racers bid to retain the Stuart Robertson Cup

Murrayfield Racers face Dundee Comets this weekend aiming to retain their grip on the Stuart Robertson Cup (SRC).

The Racers won the inaugural running of the SRC last term before going on to be crowned champions of the Scottish National League (SNL).

Tony Hand’s side swept through the opening stage of this season’s competition, winning all six games to claim top spot in the southern group.

They were largely untroubled by Aberdeen Lynx in the semi-finals, recording a 14-1 aggregate victory to progress to the final.

The Comets finished top of the northern section with nine points to secure a last four tie against North Ayrshire Wild.

They secured a 10-6 road win in the first leg, but were pegged back in the reverse fixture as Wild closed to within one goal.

However, the Comets regrouped to hit five unanswered goals to seal a 15-9 victory overall.

The Racers have met the Comets twice this season, winning both their meetings in the NIHL North Cup.

The first leg of the SRC Final takes place in Dundee on Saturday (face-off 7.00pm), with Murrayfield Ice Rink staging the reverse fixture the following day (face-off 6.00pm).
