Racers keep cup defence on track with emphatic victory over Lynx

Murrayfield Racers put one foot in the final of the Stuart Robertson Cup (SRC) with a comprehensive 9-1 victory over Aberdeen Lynx on Sunday.

Marty Simpson edged the Racers ahead in the first period, but a tight game looked to be on the cards when Mark Laing equalised early in the middle session.

However, the cup holders soon stepped things up and were rewarded as goals by Callum Boyd (2) and Archie Holmes made it 4-1 by the second buzzer.

The Racers stepped on the gas in the final period, with goals by Joel Gautschi (2), Holmes, Sean Donaldson and Dean Walker completing an emphatic win.

The two sides meet again the second leg in Aberdeen next Saturday. The winners will go on to face either Dundee Comets or North Ayrshire Wild in the final.

The Racers return to home ice the following day as they face Belfast Giants SNL in the Scottish National League.

This game will also feature a Teddy Bear Toss and food tins collection, which the Racers are hosting in conjunction with Helping Hands.
