Racers hit Pirates for a dozen, Elder keeps Thunder at bay

Murrayfield Racers bounced back to winning ways with a bang as they recorded two hefty victories over the weekend.

The Racers travelled to Paisley Pirates on Saturday aiming to complete the group phase of the Stuart Robertson Cup with a 100 percent record.

Period scores of 1-2, 0-5 and 0-5 saw the Racers seal an emphatic 12-1 success – Callum Boyd (4), Michael Ireland (3), Dean Walker (2), Sean Donaldson, Lewis Gold and Ross Borwick got the goals.

Tony Hand’s side returned to home ice the following day to face Kilmarnock Thunder in the Scottish National League (SNL).

Thunder kept the home side at bay until the eight minute mark, but the floodgates opened thereafter as the Racers hit 22 goals without reply.

Rihards Grigors (4), Alex Christian (3), Walker (3) and Ireland (3) topped the scoring, while young netminder Harry Elder secured a shut-out.

The Racers turn their attentions to the NIHL North Cup next weekend, visiting Billingham Stars on Saturday before hosting Whitley Warriors the following day.
