Murrayfield Racers continued their defence of the Stuart Robertson Cup with a resounding 9-1 victory over Paisley Pirates on Sunday.
The Racers headed into the game with an unbeaten record in the southern group after completing the double over both Kilmarnock Thunder and North Ayrshire Wild.
Tony Hand’s side were expected to face a stern challenge from the Pirates, but the Braehead-based outfit had no answer to a power-packed display from the cup holders.
Early goals by Callum Boyd and Joel Gautschi set the Racers on their way and they never really looked in danger of relinquishing their lead thereafter.
Daniel Abercrombie gave the Pirates brief hope with their only goal of the game after 24 minutes, but subsequent strikes by Gautschi and Alex Christian ensured that Murrayfield were in complete control by the second buzzer.
Gautschi (2), Christian, Boyd and Archie Holmes added further goals in the final period to secure a comfortable win for the home side.
The Racers are back in action next Sunday as they travel to face Solway Sharks in the Scottish National League (SNL).
