Racers aiming to boost NIHL North Cup hopes against Sharks and Stars

Murrayfield Racers face a tough weekend double-header as they bid to make their mark in this season’s NIHL North Cup.

The Racers visit Solway Sharks on Saturday, before returning to home ice the following day to face Billingham Stars.

Tony Hand’s side opened their cup campaign with a 7-4 victory over Dundee Comets, but they were denied a second win by a late Solway rally in their second outing.

Two goals in the final three minutes secured a 4-3 road success for Solway and left them with a 100 percent record after three matches.

The Sharks are also unbeaten in the Scottish National League (SNL) and Moralee D1, and will provide a stiff test for the Racers this weekend.

Sunday’s opponents Billingham have had an eventful start to the season, with their six league and cup matches yielding 80 goals.

They beat Dundee in their opening cup match, but have followed up with defeats against Solway and Whitley Warriors.

The two sides met each other in last season’s competition, with Billingham coming out on top on both occasions, but the Racers will be going all out to gain their revenge this weekend.
