Unbeaten pair set for thriller as Racers and Sharks go head-to-head

Murrayfield Racers face Solway Sharks in the NIHL North Cup on Sunday (face-off 6.00pm) aiming to maintain their excellent start to the new campaign.

The Racers have won six out of six across all competitions this season, but face a Sharks team who are also unbeaten after nine outings.

Solway reached the semi-finals of the competition last term, losing out 8-6 on aggregate against Telford Tigers.

The cup has been revamped this season, with the Racers and Sharks joining Dundee Comets, Billingham Stars and Whitley Warriors in the opening phase.

The top four sides progress to the semi-finals, with the winners meeting in the final. Ties in the knockout stage will be staged over two legs.

Murrayfield defeated Dundee in their first match in the group, while Solway have beaten Whitley and Billingham.

Tony Hand’s side are eager to make an impact in the competition and Sunday’s clash with the Sharks gives them the ideal opportunity to measure their progress.

‘D’ man Liam Danskin has been in impressive form since joining the Racers from Kirkcaldy Kestrels during the summer and he is looking forward to testing himself against the Sharks.

“We’ve had a great start to the season,” he said. “Not just with the wins, but the team has come together really well on and off the ice and it shows in our games.

“Solway will definitely be a hard game. They’re a very well drilled team, but I fully believe we can give them a run for their money.

“I think that the game will build us as a group and help us improve. Hopefully we can put on a show for the fans and come away with the win.”
