Murrayfield Racers recorded a 7-4 victory over Dundee Comets in their opening NIHL North Cup game on Sunday.
The Comets started the game brightly and were rewarded inside the first two minutes as Adam McNicoll put them 1-0 ahead.
Callum Boyd equalised midway through the first period, but Sean Beattie restored the Comets’ lead in the 16th minute.
Quickfire goals by Joel Gautschi and Marty Simpson edged the Racers in front early in the second session, but David Pokorny soon tied things up again.
Rihards Grigors made it 4-3 to the Racers after 29 minutes, before Comets’ player/coach John Dolan levelled again just two minutes later.
Goals in the final seven minutes by Gautschi, Alex Chrsitian and Boyd ended the visitors’ resistance and sealed the points for Tony Hand’s side.
The Racers are back in action next weekend with a double-header in the Stuart Robertson Cup.
They travel to North Ayrshire Wild on Saturday (face-off 6.30pm), before returning to home ice the following evening to face Kilmarnock Thunder (face-off 6.00pm).
