Murrayfield Racers kick-off their defence of the Scottish National League (SNL) title on Sunday with an away fixture against Dundee Tigers (face-off 8.30pm).
The Racers impressively claimed top spot in their first season back on the ice in 2018/19, securing the trophy without losing a game.
They have started the new campaign in good form, comfortably beating Kilmarnock Thunder and North Ayrshire Wild in the Stuart Robertson Cup (SRC).
Having also recorded victories over Dundee Comets and Paisley Pirates in challenge matches, ‘D’ man Scott Geddes says it has been a good start to the season.
“Playing a few competitive friendlies against the teams who will be challenging us this season has helped us get back into things quickly and it was nice to get the wins in the process,” he said.
“The new guys have settled in really well and are quickly learning how we play, so it’s looking very bright for the season ahead.
“We want to follow on from our successes from last year, so it’s about working hard together. Obviously we want to repeat our efforts from last year and go one better in the two finals we lost!
“Having a lot more depth in the squad also gives us an opportunity to properly compete in the NIHL North Cup which is a big competition for us this year.”
Sunday’s fixture at Dundee will be extra special for Geddes as it pitches him up against his former club.
The Tigers have performed impressively in their opening SRC games, defeating Kirkcaldy Kestrels before narrowly losing out against Aberdeen Lynx.
Geddes admits he is looking forward to going head-to-head with the resurgent Tigers this weekend.
“I enjoy playing against my old teams, because it always makes me want to play well,” he added.
“The Tigers have managed to assemble a very strong team and we know they’ll be a lot more difficult to play against than last season, so we need to make sure we are up for it.”
