Murrayfield Racers host North Ayrshire Wild on Sunday (face-off 6.00pm) aiming to record their second victory in this season’s Stuart Robertson Cup competition.
The Racers opened up their southern group campaign last weekend with a resounding victory at Kilmarnock Thunder, but should face a much sterner test against Wild.
The two sides met in last season’s final, with Murrayfield eventually claiming the trophy after two entertaining matches.
The visitors have improved their squad this summer and will be eager to give the Racers a run for their money at Murrayfield Ice Rink.
Racers’ Director of Hockey, Tony Hand, was pleased to see his side get off to a winning start at Kilmarnock and has urged his players to build on that performance this weekend.
“It was good for the guys’ confidence to rack up a few goals at Kilmarnock,” he said. “In fairness to them they never gave up, but we had too much depth for them.
“We know there will tougher tests ahead and that will certainly the case when North Ayrshire Wild visit us on Sunday.
“They did well to reach the final of the Stuart Robertson Cup last season and we had two competitive games against them.
“I’ve been pleased with how things are gelling so far – our new guys are settling in well and the mood around the dressing room is good.
“Hopefully we can keep rolling with another victory this weekend and put ourselves in a good position in the group.”
