Murrayfield Racers started their defence of the Stuart Robertson Cup with an emphatic 22-1 victory at Kilmarnock Thunder on Saturday.
The Racers began the new campaign on the front foot, with goals by Callum Boyd (3), Ethan Reid, Joel Gautschi, Marty Simpson, and Rihards Grigors putting them 7-0 ahead by the first break.
Tony Hand’s side added another 11 goals to their tally in the middle session, with Boyd (3) and Gautschi (3) leading the scoring.
Simpson, Reid, Sean Donaldson, Scott Geddes and Lewis Gold were also on the scoresheet to leave the Racers in complete control of the match.
Goals by Michael Ireland, Donaldson, Reid and Grigors added to Murrayfield’s tally in the third period, with Andrew Brown grabbing a consolation for the home side.
The Racers followed up with a 5-2 home victory over Paisley Pirates in a challenge match on Sunday – Gautschi (3), Boyd and Ireland got the goals.
