Gautschi is back and eager to claim NIHL North Cup success

Murrayfield Racers are delighted to confirm that forward Joel Gautschi has agreed another season with the club.

The 28-year-old finished second in the Scottish National League (SNL) scoring charts last term, bagging 22 goals with 25 assists in 15 appearances.

His efforts helped the Racers claim the SNL title without losing a game and he played an integral role in the club’s success in the Stuart Robertson Cup.

He also led the way for the team in the NIHL North Cup, recording 10 points in 12 games against Moralee D1 opposition.

Gautschi is currently averaging well over two points per game in the SNL and will be an important part of the roster next term.

He becomes the 15th player to be signed by the Racers this summer and says he is eager to build on an impressive campaign last time around.

“I thought it was good to win the two trophies in our first year playing together,” he said.

“It was obviously disappointing to lose two finals, but I felt we were easily the best team in the league and hopefully we can improve on that this year.

“It wasn’t a hard choice to return to the Racers again as the players that have agreed another season are really good guys.

“I’m looking forward to meeting to some of the new boys that are coming to play, although it will be strange playing with some of the people we used to play against!

“This season I’m going to be focused on the NIHL North Cup and potentially winning it. I feel like with the players we have added this season we shouldn’t be far off.

“On a personal level I’m just looking to have a good season. I feel like I could improve on last year and hopefully help the team get the results we want across every competition.”
