Christian aiming to find an ideal world with the Racers

Murrayfield Racers are delighted to confirm that German-born Alex Christian has agreed to sign for the club.

The 25-year-old progressed through the junior system in his homeland, before gaining experience at senior level during the 2012/13 campaign.

He came across a familiar name to Racers’ fans during that season, icing in the same leagues as ‘D’ man Rihards Grigors.

Christian continued his development over the next three years, eventually ending up in Germany3 with Hamburger SV.

He ventured abroad in 2016, penning a deal with Rodovre SIK in Denmark2. The team finished sixth during the regular season, before going on to reach the final of the play-offs where they were beaten by Hvidovre Fighters.

Rodovre came second in their section in a revamped regionalised set-up the following season, but were knocked out of the play-offs at the quarter-final stage.

Rasmus Bjerrum and Lukas Lundvald have both previously iced in Denmark2, and the pair ended last season inside the top 50 point scorers in the Elite League for Glasgow Clan and Dundee Stars respectively.

Equally comfortable playing in defence or as a forward, Christian says he is delighted to be linking up with the Racers this autumn.

“I’m coming to Scotland to commence my PhD studies at the University of Edinburgh,” he said.

“It did not take long to figure out that with the Murrayfield Racers, Edinburgh has a competitive ice hockey team!

“I’ve loved the sport for two decades now and have also very much enjoyed the experience of playing abroad, so I established contact with the Racers.

“My hopes for the season are to stay injury-free and to be able to help the team win the SNL title again as well as improve the team’s standing in the NIHL North Cup.

“I’m now very excited about the upcoming season and can’t wait to get started!”

Racers’ Director of Hockey, Tony Hand, added: “We’re very lucky that Alex is coming to study in Edinburgh and we think he will be a big asset to the squad.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming Alex to Scotland and we hope everyone gets behind him to help him settle in.”
