Racers’ new-boy eager to test himself in crossover cup competition

Murrayfield Racers have sealed their fourth signing of the summer, with Marty Simpson agreeing to join the club for the 2019/20 campaign.

The ‘D’ man makes the switch to Murrayfield after spending the last few seasons in the Scottish National League (SNL) with Kirkcaldy Kestrels.

The 20-year-old averaged over a point per game last season as the Kestrels finished third in the SNL and reached the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup and end-of-season play-offs.

He has also been an integral part of Fife Falcons’ incredible run of success at U20 level, helping the team claim numerous trophies during his time with the club.

Simpson has gained plenty of experience with Scotland at junior level, representing his country at Conference Weekend in all age groups.

He has also featured twice in the prestigious Frank Dempster Memorial Trophy match against England U19.

In addition to playing for the Racers in Scottish competitions next term, Simpson will also have the opportunity to test himself against NIHL North teams in a revamped cup set-up.

Simpson says that was an important factor in his decision to join Murrayfield.

“Moving to the Racers this season was an easy choice, as the NIHL North Cup games will allow me to improve,” he said, “Hearing good things about the club also helped to seal the deal.

“I’ve moved here to better myself as a player on and off the ice, gaining the experience of professionalism, but also playing some higher level games which can make me the player I need to be.

“This season my aim is the same as any other – to win trophies and enjoy playing ice hockey. I’m excited to get started with the Racers.”
