Murrayfield Racers have started their roster-building with a bang by securing the services of key defenseman Rihards Grigors for the 2019/20 season.
The announcement about Grigors’ return was made at the Racers’ Player of The Year Dinner at the Village Hotel, Edinburgh, on Friday evening.
The 27-year-old boasts a wealth of higher level experience having previously iced in Latvia, Germany, Hungary and Finland.
He moved to the UK three seasons ago, going on to make over 100 appearances in the top flight before agreeing a deal to join Murrayfield in December 2018.
The Latvian quickly established himself as an important part of the roster, helping the Racers win the Scottish National League title and Stuart Robertson Cup.
Grigors says he is thrilled to stay with the Edinburgh-based club.
“It was an easy decision to sign with the Racers for another season, as I can stay home with my family,” he said.
“Our team management are looking to build a stronger squad for next season and that made my decision much easier.
“We’ll be looking to be much more successful in the NIHL Northern Cup and as we lost two finals last season I feel that we still have some unfinished business.
“I’m already looking forward to the start of next season and hope there will be even bigger crowds watching us next year.”
