Murrayfield Racers head to Dundee Ice Arena this weekend in search of their second trophy of the season.
The Racers already have the Scottish National League title in the bag and are now aiming to add the play-off crown to their haul.
Tony Hand’s side face Dundee Comets in the first semi-final at the Final Four Weekend, with the winners progressing to meet either Paisley Pirates or Kirkcaldy Kestrels in Sunday’s final.
The Racers are expected to take a sizeable following to Dundee for an event that will showcase the best four sides in the SNL.
The club has been humbled by the support it has received this season, so we thought we’d take this opportunity to get the thoughts of some of our fans ahead of the big weekend.
“I supported the original Murrayfield Racers back in the early 80s when Tony Hand was just beginning his career and was delighted to hear that he was getting a young team together.
“Watching them play their first match brought back great memories and ignited my passion for the sport.
“As someone with Bipolar who can struggle with depression, following a sports team who put their hearts into every game alongside people who share your passion has given me the motivation to keep going.
“Attending away games has been a fantastic experience too and I’m very proud to be part of the ‘Racers Family’.
“The Racers have really improved throughout the season and their skills, passion, sportsmanship and dedication to their fans has taken them to the top of the league.
“The team haven’t had it easy and faced some challenging games against strong physical competition in the SNL.
“However, being supported by a fantastic team of staff and volunteers has seen them improve their skills and we were all bursting with pride when they picked up their first trophy.
“I think their biggest challenge will be the play-offs this weekend against some tough opposition, but I’m confident that the lads’ hunger and determination will take them through to the final and will hopefully bring their second cup home to Edinburgh. I can’t wait!”
“What a season, from the very get go. Travelling up to Dundee on the team bus for the very first Racers game against the Comets (Caledonian Cup), who had swept the board the previous season, I didn’t know what to expect.
“After ten minutes of the game it was clear we were onto something special. Hockey fans want to watch great hockey, and that is what we’ve had this season.
“It’s brilliant to see how the team have developed with the guys stepping up from the juniors over the course of the season – the whole team have been playing for the jersey.
“What a fantastic job Tony (Hand) and Willie (Dunn) have done on and off the ice to make such a success of the Racers’ return.
“Not in my wildest dreams did I imagine we would win the league, have two cup finals to play and reach the Final Four Play-Off Weekend.
“I can’t wait for the weekend ahead. I know the team will leave nothing on the ice, and the support will be the best as it has been all season long – let’s hope the Racers will be having a party!!!!
“I’ll be there with my drum going radge for the Racers!!!!
“Mon The Racers!!!!!!”
“As a long-term Edinburgh Capitals fan I was gutted when my team folded at the end of last season, but curiosity took me along to the Racers’ welcome meeting.
“I was impressed with the package they came up with and immediately decided to apply for a season ticket.
“The SNL wasn’t new to me as I’d followed it in the past, but had never had a season like this one. To watch a team who try their hardest week in, week out, has been an absolute pleasure.
“To have an unbeaten season in Scotland is some achievement. The team try their hardest and as a fan I couldn’t ask anything more from them.
“To win the league in their first season is fantastic and hopefully this weekend we can add to our trophy cabinet.”
