Rampant Racers roar across the finish line to claim league title

Murrayfield Racers secured silverware in their first season back on the ice after clinching the Scottish National League title on Saturday.

The Racers’ 11-6 victory at North Ayrshire Wild meant Kirkcaldy Kestrels needed to win at Aberdeen Lynx to keep the title race alive.

However, Lynx recorded a 5-0 success to ensure that Tony Hand’s side could not be caught at the top of the table.

Martin Cingel (3), Callum Boyd (2), Rihards Grigors (2), Joel Gautschi (2), Ethan Reid and Sean Donaldson got the goals on a memorable evening for the club.

The Racers maintained their unbeaten record in Scottish competitions with a comfortable 18-0 win at Solway Stingrays the following evening.

Boyd weighed in with another five goals, while Michael Ireland (3) and Gautschi were also amongst the scorers.

Murrayfield are back in action on Saturday, 9th March, in the second leg of their Scottish Cup semi-final at Kirkcaldy Kestrels. The Racers won the first meeting 6-0.

Their final league match is at home to Kilmarnock Thunder the following day. Please click here to purchase tickets.
