Former Murrayfield Racers star Paul Pentland says he is eager to see the reborn club climb back up the ice hockey ladder.
Pentland enjoyed a distinguished playing career during the 1980s and 90s, icing in over 700 games and representing Great Britain at a World Championship tournament.
He now runs his own carpets and interiors business in Edinburgh, and has backed the Racers’ SNL title challenge this season by sponsoring Sunday’s home match against Dundee Tigers.
He said: “I’ve known Tony (Hand) a long time and I’m keen to see him take the Racers back to where they were in the UK game.
“Since I moved into business I’ve tried to support hockey at Murrayfield wherever I can and the sponsorship of this game is part of that.
“Much like when we were playing, the current roster has plenty of young British talent and that is the way forward for hockey in the city.
“The team have had a tough time against the NIHL sides, but they’re all well established and it’s not easy with the travel and money involved.
“However, the Racers are doing well in Scotland and I’ve really enjoyed following them as the season has progressed.
“I’m looking forward to attending Sunday’s game. I was there on the opening day to see them win and hopefully they can do the same against the Tigers.”
The Racers would like to thank Paul for kindly sponsoring Sunday’s match.
