Murrayfield Racers maintained their unbeaten record in the Scottish National League (SNL) with a stylish 5-2 victory at Aberdeen Lynx on Saturday.
Rihards Grigors’ debut goal in the 12th minute set the Racers on their way, and they doubled their lead through Martin Cingel five minutes later. Jordan Leyden pulled one back for the home side just before the first break.
Neither side could find a goal in the middle session and it took until the 43-minute mark before the scorers were troubled again, with Callum Boyd restoring the two-goal cushion.
Grigors bagged his second of the night a minute later to make it 4-1, before Sean Donaldson added a fifth midway through the final period.
Calum McEachran pulled one back for the home side after 54 minutes, but the Racers comfortably saw out the game to secure a vital two points.
The result moved the Racers up to third in the table, four points behind leaders Dundee Comets with three games in hand.
Tony Hand’s side were out of luck in the NIHL North Cup the following day, going down 4-0 at home to Billingham Stars – Kevin Boyd (2), Cain Taylor and Ethan Hehir scored for the visitors.
The Racers are back in league action next Sunday as they welcome Solway Stingrays to Murrayfield Ice Rink (face-off 6.00pm).
