Murrayfield Racers have strengthened their roster with the signing of Rihards Grigors.
The Latvian-born ‘D’ man started the season on trial with Fife Flyers, before joining Milton Keynes Lightning during September.
He went on to play 17 games for the Elite League club, but left the team after providing cover for the first part of the season.
The 26-year-old boasts a wealth of higher level experience having previously iced in Latvia, Germany, Hungary and Finland.
Racers’ boss Tony Hand said: “We are delighted to be able to sign Rihards. Following his departure from Ligthning he asked if we would be interested in having him on the Racers’ roster.
“Rihards is based locally and has got a new baby to consider, so it was an easy decision to make and I’m delighted to add him to the squad.”
Grigors will hopefully make his debut on home ice against Billingham Stars in the NIHL North Cup on Sunday.
He will team up on the blueline with his younger brother Patriks, continuing the Racers’ long tradition of brothers playing on the same team. He says he is delighted to be back playing in Edinburgh.
“I enjoyed my time here with the Capitals and made lots of friends,” he said. “I hope many of them will come watch myself and the team play this season.
“I would like to thank Tony for giving me the opportunity to keep playing and I’m looking forward to playing alongside Patriks.”
