A third period blitz by Murrayfield Racers sealed a superb victory over Dundee Comets in the Scottish National League on Sunday.
The Comets started the game on the front foot, but they were unable to find a way past Racers’ goalie Mark McGill in the first period.
John Dolan gave the visitors the lead early in the middle session, but Martin Cingel quickly levelled things up with a breakaway goal.
Racers came out firing in the third period, with Richard Hartmann, Sean Donaldson and Cingel again making it 4-1 to the home side.
Dolan gave the Comets a glimmer of hope with his second of the game after 44 minutes, but two quick goals by Ethan Reid put the Racers firmly in control.
Cingel completed his hat-trick with a superb wraparound goal, before Joel Gautschi capped a memorable night with a stunner of his own to round-off a comprehensive 8-2 victory.
The Racers were also in action the previous evening against Hull Pirates in the NIHL North Cup. However, the Moralee D1 side produced an excellent road performance to secure an 11-1 win. Michael Ireland scored the Racers’ goal.
Tony Hand’s side are back in action on Sunday, 9th December, against Kirkcaldy Kestrels (face-off 6.00pm). It is the Racers’ last home game in the Stuart Robertson Cup and a win will help them in their goal of reaching the final.
The game will also feature a Teddy Bear Toss which the club is hosting in conjunction with local charity Helping Hands. Please click here to find out more about the event.
