Racers Handed Defensive Boost Ahead of Double-Header

Murrayfield Racers are hoping for a bumper crowd this weekend as they host Solway Sharks in the NIHL North Cup (face-off 6.00pm).

The Racers have had a tough time of things over the past few weeks, but Sunday’s game gives them an ideal opportunity to test themselves on home ice against one of the best teams in Moralee D1.

The Sharks comfortably won the reverse fixture back in October, although the Racers were missing numerous key players for that game.

The Racers are also in action the previous day when they travel to play Dundee Tigers in the Scottish National League (face-off 7.45pm).

The two sides faced each other during September in the Stuart Robertson Cup, with the Racers running out 12-0 winners.

Racers’ boss Tony Hand will have a stronger squad at his disposal this weekend and he is eagerly anticipating the two challenges.

“It will be good get back to our domestic league on Saturday as we haven’t played an SNL match in a while,” he said. “We have been playing predominantly on the road for the past month.

“We’re looking forward to returning to Edinburgh on Sunday against Solway, but we know it will be a very tough match – they have a lot of skill and depth in their team.

“However, we are slowly getting some of our players back after a really tough time with injuries, including defender Patriks Grigors who returns this weekend after five weeks out.”
