Murrayfield Racers have moved to bolster their injury affected squad by adding two experienced players.
Richard Hartmann will bring a wealth of playing knowledge to the Racers; the Slovakian will add experience to a young Racers squad having iced 186 times in the Elite League scoring over 200 points. Previous to his time in the UK Hartmann played in Germany and for 12 years in Slovakia.
Racers Coach Tony hand said “We have been hit with a spate of injuries to key players and we had to move to increase the squad, Richard spoke to me at the start of the season about possibly returning to the ice if we required cover. After speaking to him he was keen to get back playing and we welcome him to the team.” Hartmann is the current Murrayfield Juniors U20 coach and will continue in this rule further strengthening the link between the juniors and the Racers.
Kevin Forshall has also agreed to sign for the Racers as back up to Mark McGill and Craig Mallinson.
Forshall iced for the Capitals for 18 years before deciding to hang up his skates but the call of the rink was too much for him.
Hand said “Kevin approached us to see if he could train as he was missing being on the ice after a couple of sessions he spoke to us about signing for the rest of the season as he was impressed with our Organisation, I was more than happy with this as you always need good goalies on and off the ice.” Hand continued “We have two very good goalies in our squad and Kevin will add to depth to our squad”
Racers play their Scottish Cup second leg game at North Ayr Wild on Saturday and take a two goal league into the game hoping it will be enough to see them through to the semi-finals.
On Sunday the Racers return home after a number of weeks on the road where we will see the return of Telford Tigers to the Murrayfield ice in what promises to be a great game.
