Murrayfield Racers have a huge task in front of them this weekend.
The team travel to Aberdeen on Saturday to play a Lynx team still smarting from last Sunday’s 3-2 loss. Leading 0-2 heading towards the end of the Stuart Robertson Cup tie, the Lynx worked hard to keep the Racers at bay but the Murrayfield men eventually found a way past Lynx’s red-hot goalie, scoring 3 goals in the final 10 minutes. Daniel Abercrombie with two and, the game-winner, a gritty rebound turned into the net by Michael Ireland.
Then on Sunday the Racers face in-from North Ayrshire Wild, the second meeting between the two teams, this time in the Scottish Cup first leg. Face off 6pm at Murrayfield Ice Rink. The second leg takes place in a few weeks time (October 27th) and the Racers will be looking to build a strong first leg lead to take to Ayrshire.
Coach Tony Hand said, “This is a huge weekend for us, we want to progress in both competitions but both opponents will be a tough test for our team. Aberdeen played out of their skins on Sunday and we took a long time to break them down but our guys kept at it and got the goals in the end. We expect the same type of game on Saturday and we know we will have to be at our best to get the win.
“We played North Ayrshire a few weeks back at Murrayfield and it was a hard-fought game, since then both teams have gone from strength to strength and I expect this game to be very tough for us. We have been working hard in training this week and need to take our chances in front of net to give us a first leg lead and hopefully progress in the Scottish Cup.”
